WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE

For many years virtually all my work was done on site and inevitably at a fairly rapid rate - little more than two hours for each painting; one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I got used to finding shade from the glare and heat of the sun when the paint dried too fast, sheltering under a large fisherman's umbrella from the rain when the paint wouldn't dry at all, retrieving easel and painting from the river in high wind, and finding my lunch box frozen to the ground in the all-day frost. On one occasion I had painted a moderately successful picture on a painfully cold day and was relieved to get back into the car and to feel the warmth of the car heater on the way home. What I hadn’t realized, though, was that the watercolour painting, thought to have dried, had in fact frozen and was busy melting in the car boot - with a few unintentional "wet-in-wet" effects as a result!

Fellow watercolour addicts may find it interesting to see various stages of one of my methods in "A picture in the making" (click on the image below)
